Wearable Monitoring

Abstract
With the improvements in health care, the life span of people has become longer. The presentation of the illness is changing from acute and simple to chronic, multiple, and complex. As a necessary corollary, the pattern of medical service will be more focused on the prediction and prevention of certain medical events based on chronic conditions than on diagnosis and treatment. For the effective prediction and prevention of events, continuous monitoring of the elderly or chronically ill patients is positively necessary by using wearable sensors and systems. Recent developments have transpired in the field of wearable technologies (i.e., sensor technology, communication technology, and data analysis techniques), and in the field of clinical applications to health and wellness, safety, home rehabilitation, assessment of treatment efficacy, and early detection of disorders. The current development of technologies and clinical applications are discussed.
